Field Trips - Water Quality Study
Friends of the Teton River offers a LaMotte water quality testing kit to local classrooms, thanks to Grand Targhee and the Targhee Institute. In September and October 2004, Brett Graves’ high school environmental science class collected and tested water samples from the Teton River. As a follow-up activity in the field, 25 juniors and seniors participated in an electro-fishing demonstration led by Idaho Fish and Game scientists and collected and identified benthic macroinvertebrates.

In February 2005, Driggs sixth grade science classes explored water quality in the lab and at Grand Targhee ski resort. In the lab, students counted and identified macroinvertebrates from a Fox Creek stream sample and tested the pH level of the Teton River in comparison to the pH of various household liquids. Discoveries students made about water quality in the lab, created a basis for snow studies in the field.
